As Managing Director for Oakwood Asia Pacific (a joint venture between Oakwood Worldwide and Colony Capital), PG has overall responsibility for the management of Oakwood's properties and operations in the Asia Pacific countries, in addition to business development, finance, and investor relations. He has responsibility for locating properties in Asia Pacific and expanding the Oakwood brand name through relationships with major global property companies. Currently, Oakwood Asia Pacific's operations span Japan, China, Korea, Thailand, Philippines, India, Bangladesh, Singapore and Indonesia.
PG has over 26 years of experience in the hospitality industry. Prior to assuming the duties of Managing Director, he was Oakwood Asia Pacific's Director of Operations and was responsible for overseeing the efforts of property general managers in achieving projected business objectives. His responsibilities also included new business development, property acquisitions and takeovers and property start-ups.
Prior to joining Oakwood in 1997, PG spent seven years with Scotts Holdings Ltd. in Singapore, serving initially as General Manager (projects), where he oversaw the development of Scotts serviced apartments in Bangkok, Jakarta and London under the Ascott and Palm Courtt brands. After the successful launch of these projects, Mathew was promoted to Director of the Hospitality Division with full responsibility for eight properties under the Ascott and Palm Courtt brand name. PG also launched Scotts serviced office concept in Jakarta and Bangkok.
A graduate of the Oberoi School of Hotel Management in New Delhi, India, Mathew spent 12 years with the Oberoi group working in various capacities in New Delhi and Hyderabad, India. As general manager, he also oversaw the Oberoi Flight Kitchen in Bombay, the Jass Oberoi Hotel in Khajuraho, India and the Babylon Oberoi Hotel in Baghdad, Iraq.
