CALCULATION OF PER DIEM RATES

Calculation of travel per diem rates within the federal government is a shared responsibility of the Department of State (DoS), the General Services Administration (GSA), and the Department of Defense Per Diem, Travel and Transportation Allowance Committee (Per Diem Committee). 

Rates for the continental United States are set by the GSA.  They are updated every October, and additionally as necessary.  Rates for Alaska, Hawaii, and overseas non-foreign areas are determined by the Per Diem Committee, and are also updated at least once a year.  Rates for non-United States overseas locations are set by the DoS, and are updated at the beginning of every month.
