Even the avenues' names evoke the class and history of New York's most sought-after neighborhood: Park Avenue, Madison Avenue, Fifth Avenue.

 

The neighborhood is home to both single and married professionals and budding young families, artists, Wall Street executives and members of New York's "Old Society".  While famous for the best shopping in the city, world-renowned museums and Central Park, the Upper East Side also has a vibrant nightlife, with plentiful restaurants and bars. The famed Madison Avenue and surrounding area is home to many top designer's flagship clothing stores, art galleries, gourmet food and wine shops, as well as more intimate neighborhood boutiques. The nine museums that comprise Museum Mile are the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Guggenheim Museum, El Museo del Barrio, Museum of the City of New York, Jewish Museum, Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum, National Academy Museum and School of Fine Arts, the Neue Galerie and the Goethe-Institute New York/German Cultural Center. The Frick Collection and the Whitney Museum of American Art are also in the area.
